A Quick Note On Why I Wrote My Book
Worn Out: How Our Clothes Cover Up Fashion's Sins comes out September 27.

Writing a book was something I always knew I would do - Worn Out wasn't necessarily it. This book, my first book, found its way to me over several years. Working in fashion was the only thing I ever wanted, but when I learned more about the industry and uncovered the truths beneath our beautiful clothes' surface, I was horrified. I went from wanting to write about designers and dresses to wanting to know more about how our trend cycles got so fast, and who is impacted by it.
As I continued to see how the industry treats people on every level, I wondered why the glamour of the runway, the trends, and the red carpet was all I was writing about. Worn Out came to be because the people who have been taken advantage of by fashion for decades made their fight for change known. Garment workers and activists around the world pulled the curtain back on the dangerous and problematic way our clothing is produced and made sure we all listened. Many spoke with me about the abuse and wage theft they've experienced. They talked about why their work is essential and why they deserve a voice in the conversation on how to change fashion.
Worn Out is also about why clothing is not something to write off as frivolous. It's about how it frames our lives and tells our stories. We all contribute to this multi-billion dollar industry, whether we like it or not, and that's why we need to know the real story.
I know my newsletters this month have been a little sporadic because, honestly, time is FLYING. The book comes out on September 27th, and that's already only a week away. Thank you so much for the support, and you'll be hearing more from me about the book launch, events, and work that needs to be done to change fashion.
You can get your copy of Worn Out on Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Target and Bookshop.
If you are in New York City, I will be doing a reading at The Strand Bookstore on September 29th. Tickets are available here.
