What to know about fashion today?
On March 29th, the EU announced a proposed “fast fashion crackdown.” According to the BBC, new rules would require products to be repairable and longer-lasting. "The Commission seeks to put a halt on fast fashion by introducing rules on textiles to be used in the European market," Iona Popescu of environmental NGO, the Environmental Coalition on Standards, told the outlet. The EU will also implement more rules on marketing in an attempt to crackdown on greenwashing.
It’s unclear how these rules will be enforced or regulated, but policy around fashion waste is one of the best ways we can make change. The proposals will now be discussed by Parliament before anything further happens.
What to wear?
Well, wear whatever feels good for the weekend, but personally, I’ll be breaking out my lighter jackets and crossing my fingers that it’s enough to keep me warm. I have two in mind. The first is a leather trench that I bought on ThredUp. It goes with pretty much anything but it is on the lighter side so I often find myself wishing I was wearing something else. The other is an oversized denim jacket that’s quilted on the inside for warmth. I get so excited to break it out every spring and fall, especially because it only works with the exact right temperature.
What to read?
It’s weird to recommend a book while you’re in the middle of it BUT I am enjoying it so much I have to share. Other People’s Clothes, is a new novel by Calla Henkel. It’s about two women in Berlin who become night-life staples. Reading it is so fun and such an escape. Though I’ve never been to Berlin, it makes me feel like I’m at a party.
What to drink?
I have been trying to cut back on coffee (back not out!!!!). A company called Irreverent Tea sent me a variety pack that had a caffeine free “mint 2.0” tea. This might be a specific taste, but I love savory things, and this has basil and cilantro. A perfect afternoon drink for those of us getting old and cutting back.
