TOP STORY:

I know you thought this section was going to be about the Met Gala, but if you want to read that, you can check out my stories here and here. This week, something that fascinated me was this Business of Fashion review of Snapchat’s AR try on feature. In the story, the author Alexandra Mondalek writes, “There were a pair of suede Puma classic trainers that looked real enough on my feet, though I wondered how lightweight the shoes were, whether my heel would rub against the back or if the toebox was too narrow.” Eventually Mondalek concludes that though there was no purchase, the virtual moment might have led to a real life try on to know more.
I do wonder that as this technology progresses, if this would alleviate some of the over purchasing that happens when people aren’t trying items on.
TOP READING:

This week, I read an article that took the thoughts from my head and put them into a wonderfully stylish article on Grubstreet. As a dirty martini lover (who only gets them every once and while I am, after all, in my 30s), I’ve been delighted to see restaurants including them on their menus all over New York in new and interesting ways. Apparently, this is because younger generations are coming off the wellness boom of the 2010s and finding themselves deep in a brining glass of gin.

TOP CLOTHING:

I’ve been getting some requests for recommendations on sustainable brands. Generally, I avoid this because I prefer to emphasize the idea of wearing what you have. Occasionally, though, I realize it's important to recognize the work of designers and brands trying to do things right with less impact. In that spirit this weekend, while it's rainy and chilly (blech), I'm thinking about sweatshirts. Pangaia is on the pricey side, but I like that they are made using recycled cotton and with a recycled water system. They also have their manufacturing policies listed clearly on their website.
TOP LOOKS:
This week is an ode to long slinky dresses.
