TOP STORY:
This week Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced The FABRIC Act, the first federal bill impacting the fashion industry. I was able to first report the story for Vogue, and you can read all of those interviews at that link. What you need to know is that it makes wage theft through piece-rate pay in the United States illegal, holding both brands and manufacturers accountable. It also encourages brands to make clothing in the United States with a reshoring tax credit and a grant program. The United States has lost an alarming number of garment jobs in the last few decades. The bill seeks to bring more garment jobs to the United States particularly in New York City.
TOP READING:

Thinking about the issues within the fashion industry from a labor perspective is extremely important. Sometimes, though, I also like to look at the history of the fashion industry from other sides - like design and modeling. Years ago I read Champagne Supernovas: Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, and the '90s Renegades Who Remade Fashion, a non-fiction book about the relationship between all those figures in fashion and how they shaped the industry. It’s a quick but informative read. Good for the beach this summer!
TOP CLOTHING:

As part of the aforementioned FABRIC Act announcement, on Friday March 13 there will be a press conference at Ferrera Manufacturing in New York City. I will be attending and that means blazer time. Since the pandemic, blazers have not really been in the rotation, and so I’m having trouble figuring out what exactly I like. Next week, you’ll read a story about my hunt for the perfect one (hint: I didn’t find it). So today, I’ll just have to shop my closet …
TOP LOOKS:
This week is an ode to great boots.
