STORY TO KNOW:
Last month the Business and Human Rights Resource Center released a report about widespread abuse against garment workers in Myanmar in the months following the military coup. According to them, 60,000 cases of abuse were reported by garment workers at 70 factories making clothing for Adidas, Bestseller, C&A, Inditex (Zara & Bershka), Fast Retailing (GU), GUESS, H&M, Lidl, Next, Matalan and Primark.
“There have been worker violations on many counts. Workers have to work overtime… and endure verbal harassment and abuse... To fulfill the impossible targets set, we do not even have time to go to the toilet,” a worker said in March. “We want the brands to know that workers are pressured by the factory to say good words when they contact the workers. We want the brands to know the reality on the ground.”

RECOMMENDED READING:

Wine Zine is something new to my rotation. It’s less a zine and more like a magazine with articles and editorials. The last issue featured articles on ancestral traditions in wine, essays about loving wine, and interviews with some of the most innovative people in the business. While I find wine books to be intimidating, this is unpretentious and fun to read (while drinking wine, of course).

WINE TO LOVE:

On that note, I haven’t been drinking white or orange wine this summer. I’ve been sticking to reds of all kinds with a chill on them. My favorite right now is Domaine de Saint Pierre, Le Dos d’Chat Ploussard - a light red from Jura that is too expensive to drink fast or without a group of friends.

STYLE NOTE:

This might turn into a more extensive essay so forgive me for the rant. Today’s note is dedicated to my good fabric shears. As I went through my closet, I realized there were a few pieces that I would like if they were a little bit different. A pair of vintage Levi’s shorts that I bought in 2014 but had never worn were just a little too long for me. Still, I didn’t think they would look good hemmed, so they literally sat in a drawer for a near decade. I also had a cardigan that I had messily cropped but thought might be cuter as a tank top. After investing in great scissors that didn’t create frays or pulls, I did some surgery and … well, it’s kind of great. 10/10 recommend just cutting your clothes up sometimes.
GOOD OUTFITS:
Just some great clothes I saw this week.
